What is The Work

What is The Work

The Work by Byron Katie is a self-inquiry method that identifies and questions stressful thoughts. House of Deep Democracy applies this method in support programs for (conversation) leaders to create space for neutrality and compassion.

How does The Work work?

Why do you react in certain ways in particular situations? And why does other people's behavior and expressions influence how you behave? The Work helps you find answers by following several simple yet powerful steps. These ultimately enable you to approach your surroundings with an open, neutral attitude.

The Work focuses on:

  • Recognizing constraining thoughts and beliefs, including through meditation techniques
  • Identifying causes of negative emotions (stress, irritation, anger, sadness, despondency)
  • Examining how others' anger and sadness trigger you
  • Meeting others with compassion and openness
  • Maintaining neutrality as a discussion leader or facilitator
  • Resolving conflicts
